Meet a BEST Volunteer - Cassandra Qiu

Written by: Cassandra Qiu | April 20th, 2026

It’s National Volunteer Week and we’re celebrating the incredible contributions of volunteers who make our work possible! We are especially grateful to Cassandra Qiu, who has consistently and reliably supported the marketing side of all of BEST’s programs over the last six months. Utilizing her strong graphic design skills, social media knowledge, and sense of humour, she has helped each program’s voice thrive. Hear more from her below:

Hi everyone! My name is Cassandra, and I create and design graphics and content for BEST Mobility’s social media profiles!

Apart from this, I am an Architecture student at UBC, an executive member of the National Organization of Minority Architectural Students (NOMAS), and 3 things I love most in life are cats, forests and my support circle. I listen to a lot of audiobooks too, currently finishing The Iliad.

I’m originally from the Slocan Valley - a mountainous rural area of interior BC. As an architectural student, I learn a lot about urbanism and sustainability. What I find the most fascinating is how architecture and landscape architecture can influence relationships and lifestyles – for example, your relationship with your neighbours can be explained through how the space around you is organized!

Feeling a bit isolated from the happenings in the world as a student, I decided to volunteer for BEST in an effort to promote positive change in the real world. It’s been such a fulfilling experience making educational posts about sustainable transportation and Vancouver wide resources.

BEST helped me gain valuable experience working in a structured group setting, with people more well versed in marketing. The marketing team has really shown me what can be accomplished with proper organization and a hardworking crew!

My favourite mode of transportation is speedwalking. You can use less of your brain compared to biking, and you get there faster compared to walking at a normal speed.

I want to thank BEST mobility for the opportunity to contribute to the immensely positive change they're making, and the opportunity to improve myself!
