Our Next Chapter: Introducing BEST Mobility’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan

Building on 35 Years of Community Impact to Shape What’s Next

This year BEST Mobility marks 35 years of advancing healthier and sustainable transportation in British Columbia. Our 2026-2030 strategic plan reflects the strong foundation of impactful community work that has brought us here as well as new opportunities to create healthier, safer, and more connected communities through transportation.

As we look ahead, we are excited to share the roadmap that will guide our work over the next several years and build on the progress we've achieved with communities, partners, and supporters across BC.

Shaped By Community

Over the past year, our Board, staff, members, committee members, and partners have helped shape this plan through conversations, reflection, and strategic thinking about the future of sustainable transportation in British Columbia and the most impactful role BEST Mobility can play in it.

This process challenged us to think carefully about where our efforts can make the greatest difference and what communities need most. We’ve been intentional about how we can advance systems change toward more equitable and less car-centric transportation. The result is a plan that is both ambitious and grounded in the practical actions needed to create meaningful change.

Looking Ahead Together

From our Board:

“This next chapter leans into what we do best: delivering meaningful community impact through programming and education, and championing healthier and more sustainable ways to move by growing our advocacy work. We are excited to continue strengthening our role as a provincial voice, especially for walking and rolling.”

Transportation shapes how people access opportunities, connect with their communities, and experience daily life. We believe everyone deserves transportation options that are safe, easy, reliable, and designed around their needs.

We know meaningful change happens when communities, organizations, governments, and individuals work together. We look forward to working alongside our members, partners, donors, sponsors, and communities across BC to bring this vision to life together.

Our Mission

To make healthy and sustainable transportation part of everyday life in BC.

Our Vision

A future where people of all ages and abilities across British Columbia choose healthy and sustainable transportation options because they are safe, easy, reliable, and designed around their needs. Walking, cycling, rolling, public transit and car-sharing connect people to places and opportunities, strengthening communities.

Our Strategic Focus Areas

To help achieve this vision, our work over the next four years will be guided by three strategic focus areas.

1. Give Walking a Voice

Elevate and celebrate walking as a foundational mode of transportation, advance car-free and car-lite spaces, and ensure people walking and rolling are prioritized in planning, funding, and road safety policies.

2. Lead Multimodal Initiatives & Education

Expand the reach and impact of BEST’s multimodal programs and education initiatives to support sustainable transportation choices and reduce automobile usage, with a focus on older adults, youth and equity-deserving communities.

3. Mobilize for Better Transportation Policies

Collaborate to advance transportation policies that accelerate mode shift to walking, cycling, rolling and transit, improving health and safety while reducing carbon emissions, with a focus on elevating underrepresented voices.

We invite you to read the full Strategic Plan and learn more about our priority areas and measures of success that will guide our work through 2030.
